Volunteerism is a way of life here. That is why Saskatchewan consistently leads the way. Almost 60% of our province’s people donate their time and energy to their community.
Last week, Lieutenant Governor Schofield announced the names of those chosen to receive the 2015 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal awards.
Anthea Loran from Swift Current was one of the winners and deserves our congratulations. She is an author and artist who has donated countless hours. She volunteered for many years on an aquatic program for special needs children; has given her time to the Canadian Mental Health Drop-In Centre; she has written books geared to helping young people develop a healthy self-image; she participates in the Oratorio Choir and she and her husband have generously contributed to the Great Plains Scholarship Fund to help young people complete their education.
We all know many others who donate countless hours of their time, energy, and financial resources to keep our communities going.
This week, let’s take a minute to remember what really makes our world go round.
