David Anderson is the Member of Parliament for the Saskatchewan riding of Cypress Hills – Grasslands. David was first elected in 2000 and subsequently re-elected four times. David has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and for the Canadian Wheat Board, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Consular.
As Parliamentary Secretary for the Canadian Wheat Board, David did extensive work which culminated in marketing freedom for Western Canadian farmers. As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, he was instrumental in efforts to open up resource development in Canada.
From 2006 to 2010, David served as Chairman of the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa. He has been committed to raising awareness of the need to protect religious freedom around the world, hosting Parliamentary Forums on Religious Freedom. David worked with fellow MP Bev Shipley to present and pass Motion 382, which unanimously declared the Parliament of Canada’s support for religious freedom around the world. David is a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief.
David studied at the University of Regina where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then went on to complete a Masters of Divinity at the Canadian Theological Seminary in 1990. He lives in Frontier, Saskatchewan and is married to Sheila. They have two adult children, Amy and Andrew, a daughter-in-law Charis and a grandson, Josiah.
