- Religious Freedom
David Anderson is the Member of Parliament for the Saskatchewan riding of Cypress Hills-Grasslands. David was first elected in 2000 and subsequently re-elected five times.
David currently serves as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Human Rights and Religious Freedom. He has also served as the Official Opposition Critic for Agriculture, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and the Canadian Wheat Board, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Consular.
As Parliamentary Secretary for the Canadian Wheat Board, David did extensive work, which culminated in marketing freedom for Western Canadian farmers. As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, he was instrumental in efforts to open up resource development in Canada.
David has been committed to raising awareness of the need to protect religious freedom. David is a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief, a network which actively supports Parliamentarians globally on issues of freedom of religion and belief.
David worked with fellow MP Bev Shipley to present and pass Motion 382 in April 2013, which unanimously declared the Parliament of Canada’s support for religious freedom around the world. He has hosted six Parliamentary Forums on Religious Freedom.
David has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Regina and a Masters of Divinity from the Canadian Theological Seminary. He is married to Sheila.
