Trudeau’s EI scheme a recipe for resentment

Is it a coincidence that in only six months this federal Liberal government has caused enough uncertainty that investment is being driven out of Western Canada? Or that this government is now deliberately and directly interfering in the approval process for Western Canadian energy projects? Or that the only comments Trudeau’s main policy advisor has about Westerners is to mock them?

Now this Liberal government had decreed that laid off workers in some areas of Saskatchewan will be treated differently than unemployed workers in other areas of the province, including Southwestern Saskatchewan. Their plan to give extended EI benefits (which, by the way, are still much less than what people get in other areas of this country) to some laid off workers in Saskatchewan and to deny them to others is a recipe for resentment.

When questioned, Justin Trudeau said last week that we should be happy that things are worse elsewhere. Maybe instead of lecturing us, he could provide some real signs that the economic heartland of this country will be allowed to get back to work instead of being sent to the unemployment lines.
