Online “Tribute to Veterans” Launched by MP David Anderson
Ottawa, ON – David Anderson, MP for Cypress Hills–Grasslands, today announced the launch of an online Remembrance Day tour of Centre Block as a tribute to Cypress Hills–Grasslands veterans. The tour, at www.DavidAnderson.ca/tribute, highlights the many war memorials in the Centre Block building of Parliament.
“Centre Block is home to a number of significant war memorials commemorating Canadian veterans and those who served our country in war time,” Anderson said. “These important markers of our nation’s history and values can now be viewed by anyone, without visiting Parliament.”
“It is important that even those who cannot travel to Ottawa have opportunity to appreciate these memorials and reflect on the sacrifice and service of the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country,” Anderson said. “This web-based tour now makes this possible.”
Anderson noted that the memorials have been available for viewing on Google Street View for more than a year, but unless people knew where to locate them, they would be difficult to find.
“Exploring Centre Block on Google Street View can be a bit challenging by itself. Without someone to guide you it can be difficult to know where you are and what you are looking at,” Anderson explained. “This tour operates like a tour guide, taking you directly to the war memorials and giving you the background information about what you are looking at.”
The web-based tour also includes some of the war memorials which are not on Parliament Hill, but are found in the Ottawa area. To see the online tour, go to www.DavidAnderson.ca/tribute.
