Dr. Mario Silva

Dr. Mario Silva has had a distinguished career as an elected municipal and federal official between the years 1994 and 2011 as well as an author and international legal scholar. He was appointed by the Government of Canada to serve as the 2013 Chair of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
Dr. Silva is a graduate of the University of Toronto, the University of Sorbonne in Paris and holds a Master’s degree in International Law from Oxford University as well as a Ph.D. in law from the National University of Ireland in Galway. He has been honoured with the French Order of the Legion of Honour, Order of Merit of Portugal, the Order of Rio Branco from Brazil and the Insignia of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. He has also received the Bridge Builder Award by the Parliament of Canada All Party Interfaith Friendship Group.
Dr. Silva has published several articles and books in the field of international law and co-edited a book on anti-Semitism. Dr. Silva is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ryerson University, a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and has served on the boards of Exhibition Place, Canadian Opera Company, Mount Sinai Hospital and Toronto Hydro.
