David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills–Grasslands and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Human Rights and Religious Freedom, will be hosting the 7th Annual Parliamentary Forum on Religious Freedom on October 1, 2018 from 7:00-9:00pm.
“Six previous Parliamentary Forums have brought together academics, social critics, faith leaders and community leaders to discuss the pertinent religious freedom issues of our time,” said Anderson. “I’m very pleased that this year’s focus will return to religious freedom in Canada. Some of the leading thinkers on religious freedom, and faith community leaders, will tackle some of the toughest issues facing religious freedom in Canada today and in the future.”
The Forum will consist of two expert panels, Q&A and discussion time, as well as a closing speaker.
On a panel focused on Present Implications for Religious Freedom in Canada, speakers will be:
- Dr. David Guretzki (Executive Vice-President, Evangelical Fellowship of Canada)
- Mr. Don Hutchinson (Author and Principal, Ansero Services)
Addressing the question, “will there be a role for faith and freedom of religion or belief in the future of Canada and how do we protect the present protections?” speakers will be:
- Imam Luqman Ahmed (Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada)
- Father Raymond J. de Souza (Editor-in-Chief, Convivium.ca)
- Raheel Raza (President of the Council for Muslims Facing Tomorrow, and Founding Member of the Muslim Reform Movement)
The closing speaker, on whether there are “enduring benefits to religious identity and religious participation for more than just the participants,” will be:
- Ray Pennings (Executive Vice President, Cardus)
Parliamentarians and members of the public have been invited to participate at the October 1 Forum.
