This federal government shows little coherent direction. If you remove the photo ops and fawning media, we’re left with nothing more than a string of broken promises, fiscal foolishness and policy chaos.
Here’s an example: BC and Aboriginal entity SSN has filed a land claim in the courts. The unique thing is that this lays claim to private property all around the Kamloops area, including parts of the city, the university and a nearby ski resort. The BC government, as it should, has stepped up and said it will defend private property rights against the claim. But for the first time, the federal government has refused to stand up, and has refused to say they will defend private property rights. In fact, their response has been to say they will settle this “nation to nation,” and they don’t want to talk about the court case. That’s exactly the point on which they should be taking leadership.
This is the divisiveness that we see bubbling up wherever this government gets involved – through dividing Canadians, or refusing to provide the leadership necessary.
