The Liberals’ Summer of Failure was on display as the House of Commons resumed in Ottawa last week.
Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland have made such a mess of NAFTA that the potential for real disaster is high. Canada got important concessions from Trump – then Trudeau mocked the US President.
They sat out this summer while Mexico and the US hammered out a deal. Chrystia Freeland has deliberately arrived late for scheduled meetings, and she finds it more interesting to promote cute sayings on her clothes than Canadian trade issues. She left the negotiating table to fly to Toronto for a Liberal gathering that mocked Trump as one of the world’s worst tyrants. What are they thinking?
Each of these stunts interferes with Canadians’ futures. We need NAFTA. Without it our – by far – largest trading relationship is in chaos. That means the loss of thousands of jobs, firms moving south and a deep Canadian recession.
People work hard to get their crops in, to keep manufacturing producing and getting our energy products to market. The last thing they need is a failing Liberal government that treats their hard work as a joke.
