The Liberal government is getting a reputation for failing to fulfill their commitments. They are good at self promotion, but terrible at performance. There is probably no clearer example of this than their refugee program.
First, they set unrealistic deadlines and then failed to meet them. There was no way that they could jam 25,000 people into Canada in the timeline they set. In their haste, they refused to consider the threat to minority communities as a factor in providing refuge. Assyrian Christians, Yazidis and others were left out in the cold.
Now that the refugees are here, this government is failing them. Refugees have been housed in hotels. Language training is inadequate. There are more and more reports of Syrian refugees being forced to access food banks. And there seems to be no support plan for the future.
There is a very different and a much more effective solution to this situation. Private sponsors have stepped up but have been frustrated by this government. Even though they can provide instant support and that being welcomed by local communities is critical for transition, they have been pushed aside. Their frustration is rising as they wait. If this had been less political it would have been far more successful.
