Canada has relied on legal immigration for decades. It was understood, prior to Justin Trudeau’s election, that people could not apply as refugees in Canada when they were already in a safe third country.
Justin Trudeau recklessly tweeted in 2017 that people would not be stopped from crossing illegally from the United States. Since then, our borders have been swamped. People have flown in from around the globe, driven to our border, walked across and then claimed to be refugees. Now, we have a system that has been overwhelmed, massive delays in legal immigration applications, and a huge cost to the Canadian taxpayer.
The Parliamentary Budget Officer estimates that the federal cost for illegal claimants will be more than a billion dollars. Quebec and Ontario are asking for another half a billion dollars to cover their costs.
Now, Trudeau wants to sign on to a Global Compact on Migration that will further weaken our borders. Canadians want their border to be secure and are not happy with Justin Trudeau’s sabotage of our immigration system.
