The climate change frenzy has begun. Some old and new beggars are lined up at the trough for another kick at the taxpayer.
Since the federal election, we have heard over and over again that that Liberals are going to move on a climate change plan. It has had no specifics other than it will involve carbon taxes and huge amounts of spending. This is the precise thing that has been such a dismal failure in Ontario recently.
These government-run climate change programs invariably result in the taxpayers absorbing massive tax costs while the government funnels money into whatever green obsession they have at the moment.
For the past forty years we have had success in dealing with environmental issues but not through repressive tax plans, or phony exchanges, or international credits. Success came about through regulation – by governments deciding that at a certain point this type of pollution is no longer acceptable. We have seen success in vehicle emissions, airborne particulates, lead usage, acid rain, energy efficiency and a host of others. That’s the way to environmental success without breaking the taxpayer.
