Anderson and IPPFoRB in Berlin, Germany to protect and promote the freedom to believe

BERLIN, GERMANY – David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress-Hills Grasslands and Official Opposition Critic for Human Rights and Religious Freedom, is in Berlin, Germany with the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB), hosting an event to promote this fundamental human right.david-anderson-2

“Make no mistake, with 74% of the world’s population living in countries with high or very high restrictions or hostilities, freedom of religion or belief is an embattled right and the defining issue of our time,” said Anderson. “Freedom to believe is what shapes our common humanity and, if we are not careful, we risk losing it.”

The conference is the second international parliamentarians’ conference that Anderson – a member of the IPPFoRB Steering Group – and his IPPFoRB colleagues have organized. Hosted in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the event is focused on approaches to defend and enhance this basic freedom. Anderson and his colleagues have organized a conference for over 100 parliamentarians from 60 countries. The event has brought together international leadership, leading academic figures and parliamentarians from around the world.

The final day features a high-level political conference hosted by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and organized by the German CDU/CSU Party.

“Working to promote this fundamental human right is vital to those who regularly face discrimination, persecution and death threats because of their faith,” noted Anderson. “That is why we, as lawmakers, must continue to discuss these real threats.”
