National Prayer Breakfast
May 20, 2008

I mentioned several months ago that I had been asked to once again chair the National Prayer Breakfast. For 43 years people from across Canada have gathered in Ottawa to prayer for our country and for each other and it has been my privilege to be involved. After months of work by my staff and other volunteers the event came together last week. Its more than just a breakfast – there are student forums, a Wednesday night banquet on Parliament Hill, the Thursday breakfast and a closing session.

Judy Graves spoke to over 800 people at the breakfast about how her Christian faith has informed and motivated her work in Vancouver with the homeless. She has made a difference in the lives of thousands of people because she decided years ago to do what she could for her community.

Steve Bell, the nationally recognized musician, sang and played. Many people from the South west will remember his appearance several years ago at the Frenchman River Gospel Music Jamboree.

The goal of the Breakfast is to bring people of all faiths and political parties together in the spirit of Christ. Our prayer is that this years breakfast has done that.
