Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham

Janet Epp Buckingham is an associate professor at Trinity Western University and the Director of the Laurentian Leadership Centre, an Ottawa-based, live-in, extension program focusing on public policy. Her research area is religious freedom in Canada and internationally.
Buckingham previously served as Director of Law and Public Policy with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. In this capacity, she assisted with interventions in key court cases on religious freedom in Canada. She also appeared before numerous parliamentary committees. Buckingham was a member of the Religious Liberty of the World Evangelical Alliance and their spokesperson at the United Nations in Geneva on religious liberty.
Buckingham received her LL.B. from Dalhousie University. She completed her LL.D. at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1998, with a dissertation comparing religious freedom in Canada and South Africa. Her recent book, Fighting over God, is a legal and political history of religious freedom in Canada.
