RInC Program Now OPEN
May 11, 2009

May 11, 2009 – David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills - Grasslands announced today that the Government of Canada is now taking applications for recreation centres. In the last federal budget $500 million was set aside to upgrade recreation centres across Canada. Project applications are now being accepted under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program for upgrades and repairs to local hockey rinks, swimming pools, sport fields and other recreational sites. Project proposals are due by May 29, 2009.

“In Saskatchewan recreation centres are often a focal point in our communities,” explained David Anderson. “The Conservative Government recognizes this, and is looking to update the facilities that will help encourage greater participation in our communities through social and physical activity. Through RInC, we are helping to ensure that communities across Canada have access to essential infrastructure today and in the future.”

Under RInC, the Conservative Government will provide up to one-third of total eligible costs, with a maximum project contribution of $1 million. The program is targeting projects that will be completed by March 31, 2011.

The initial funding allocation under RInC for the West is almost $54 million.  Projects will be selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.

“I’ve been working with our municipalities already under the Building Canada Fund, and am encouraged to see some great opportunities for this program,” said David Anderson. “I strongly encourage any interested communities to act quickly and apply.”

Further information and applications are available on the website for Western Economic Diversification at: http://www.wd-deo.gc.ca/eng/11264.asp.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program is part of the Conservative Government’s Economic Action Plan; a multi-faceted plan that is providing needed stimulus funding to ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn.
