SWIFT CURRENT, Saskatchewan – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, David Anderson, Conservative Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills-Grasslands, today announced funding for the Windscape Kite Club of Swift Current.
The Windscape Kite Club Inc. has received funding of $15,900 to help present its Saskpower Windscape Kite festival which will take place in Swift Current from June 25th- June 26th. “By partnering with communities to support activities such as the Windscape Kite festival, we are able to positively benefit the development of local tourism and the economy,” said Anderson.
"The SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival in Swift Current is a valuable asset to culture and tourism in Saskatchewan, and thanks to this funding and support, we will continue to expand on the success already achieved,” said Shann Gowan, Cultural Festivals Coordinator. “The 2011 festival is going international. We will be welcoming award-winning kite flyers from Germany, France, throughout the United States and Canada. We will continue to provide a family-oriented fun event that has something for everyone and attracts people to the ‘Land of the Living Skies’ to see an amazing interaction of art and wind.”
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
