March 02, 2011

OTTAWA, Ontario - David Anderson, Member of Parliament (Cypress Hills-Grasslands, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources) today congratulated the Saskatchewan Government on taking a leading role in the Canadian nuclear industry by establishing a Centre for Research In Nuclear Science and Nuclear Medicine.

"It is great to see Premier Wall taking the initiative in bringing Saskatchewan to the forefront of nuclear science. With the renaissance of nuclear energy this is a great time for the province to lead in the development of new technologies. This takes the province in a new and vital direction, as the nuclear industry will continue to be an extremely important part of Saskatchewan's future."

Anderson's comments come on the heels of the Saskatchewan Government's announcement of $30 million over seven years to establish a new Research Centre at the University of Saskatchewan; with the goal of re-establishing the province as an international leader in nuclear science and nuclear medicine. The centre will focus on nuclear science and engineering, materials and neutron science and nuclear health sciences and will facilitate an expansion of academic programs in nuclear engineering, nuclear and reactor physics and radiochemistry.

"This Research Centre is the type of project that will make a lasting change for the people of Saskatchewan. I commend the Government of Saskatchewan for their leadership, and I look forward to working with the Premier and his government on these types of projects now and in the future."
