David Anderson Celebrates Ten Years in Office
November 29, 2010

OTTAWA, ON: David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills – Grasslands, is celebrating ten years in office. He was first elected to represent southwest Saskatchewan on November 27, 2000 and is currently in his fourth term. “It has been an honour and privilege to serve the people of southwest Saskatchewan these ten years,” said Anderson.

“They are the best people in this country and I have enjoyed their support and friendship.” Anderson was first elected as an MP with the Canadian Alliance, but won as a Conservative in 2004, 2006, and 2008. He was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for the Canadian Wheat Board in January 2006 and also for the Minister of Natural Resources in October 2007. He has maintained those responsibilities ever since. He also chaired the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa from 2006 until this year’s event. “I have not done this alone,” Anderson said. “Sheila, my wife, has made tremendous personal sacrifices, as have my children Amy and Andrew. My staff in Swift Current and Ottawa have been tremendous, and so have the many volunteers who help in the office and at election time.”

Anderson came to politics after living in most of his life in the Frontier area where he farms. Prior to political life, he earned two degrees in Regina—a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Regina and a Master of Divinity from Canadian Theological Seminary in 1990. “Time flies by. There’s a lot left to be done,” Anderson said. “I came to this role wanting smaller government and less interference in people’s everyday lives. That passion has never left.”
