SWIFT CURRENT, SK — David Anderson, Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills - Grasslands and Parliamentary Secretary for Natural Resources and the CWB, was in Regina on Tuesday, May 19th, to launch the Clean Energy Fund (CEF). The CEF will further demonstrate Canada’s leadership in the development and advancement of clean energy technologies.
“Our Conservative Government is encouraging development of new technologies,” said Anderson. “Not only will this protect and preserve the environment; but it will also provide long term energy security.”
The Fund invests $650 million for large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects and $200 million for small-scale demonstration projects of alternative renewable energy.
“This is another opportunity for the Government to support specific initiatives in Cypress Hills – Grasslands and capitalize on our potential,” continued Anderson. “If there are solar energy projects, wind energy, and carbon capture and storage projects in our riding, they may be eligible for funding.”
An initial request for proposals for the small-scale demonstration component of the program was issued by the Government the same day. For more information on the calls for proposals and other relevant details, please visit the following link: http://cef-fep.nrcan.gc.ca. This website contains an Intent to Submit Project Proposal link that allows interested parties to fill out forms that will allow the Government to provide more information.
The deadline for applications is September 14, 2009.
One of the other initiatives supported by the Clean Energy Fund will be Canada’s work with the United States on building a clean energy partnership on common North American issues.
