David Anderson is the Member of Parliament for the Saskatchewan riding of Cypress Hills-–Grasslands. David was first elected in 2000 and subsequently re-elected five times. David currently serves as Official Opposition Critic for Agriculture and as Official Opposition Critic for International Human Rights and Religious Freedom. He has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, and Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and the Canadian Wheat Board, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Consular.
As Parliamentary Secretary for the Canadian Wheat Board, David did extensive work, which culminated in marketing freedom for Western Canadian farmers. As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, he was instrumental in efforts to open up resource development in Canada.
From 2006 to 2010, David served as Chairman of the National Prayer Breakfast in Ottawa. He has been committed to raising awareness of the need to protect religious freedom, hosting six Parliamentary Forums on Religious Freedom. David worked with fellow MP Bev Shipley to present and pass Motion 382 in April 2013, which unanimously declared the Parliament of Canada’s support for religious freedom around the world. David is a founding member of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief, a network which actively supports Parliamentarians globally on issues of freedom of religion and belief.
David studied at the University of Regina where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then went on to complete a Masters of Divinity at the Canadian Theological Seminary in 1990. He lives in Frontier, Saskatchewan and is married to Sheila.
